I feel humbled and privileged to share with you this unique issue of 110° Magazine–our first issue created in the midst of a pandemic. Last month’s issue was written well in advance of the current world we live in. It is a fine line we teeter on as we navigate to bring forth positive content and highlight local people and places in light of everything going on. While the 110° team works hard to bring you meaningful stories, we realize there are many stories happening daily that are not positive. Our intention is to continue to offer encouragement and information through stories that highlight our community’s vibrant people and businesses. Supporting local businesses has become more important than we all ever imagined. This issue highlights the best of the best. Our Best of issue isn’t a contest but, rather, based on the choice of 110° staff members. Many of the businesses highlighted are currently open for business, some are not yet open, and some are open with modifications. Be sure to check with any business directly for up-to-the-minute details. Our feature article, Community Compassion, highlights some special individuals who made the quick choice to rise in the midst of adversity. These individuals took initiative and brought our community hope and healing with their acts of kindness. We are so proud of East Contra Costa County; we are truly stronger together!

June is normally a time where many celebrate the achievement of class graduations. Considering the circumstances, we felt the need to give a special recognition to the Senior Class of 2020 and honor them by sharing the local high schools’ group class photos. We know that this is a precious time for graduating seniors and their families. While we have all adjusted in ways we never expected, we realize that the adjustments for these seniors have meant the tender disappointment of missing milestones and public recognition for their achievements. The Class of 2020 will be remembered for their strength and resilience.

Our cover model, Krista Mashore, is offering a free e-book that I believe anyone can gain nuggets of great information from and apply to their business or their life. I did take a sneak peek at it and was highly impressed! As a local realtor and real estate coach, Krista is dedicated to leading others to success. Through her books, her podcast, and her social media videos, and channels, she continually shares her wisdom and knowledge. We are thrilled to share her story with you in this issue.

In closing, I want to share the news that our editor and one of the founding partners of 110° Magazine, Don Huntington, and his wife, Rae Huntington, have both retired from their positions. Over the years, we have been told by many readers that Don’s back column has been a cherished go-to for inspiration and reflection. Don and his wife Rae, who has been the copy editor and business manager, will be missed here at 110°. I will always be grateful to both Don and Rae who taught me the business when I took over as publisher and owner in 2007. The 110° team suggested a big send off, a tribute to their love and dedication to 110° Magazine; they humbly declined a party. We wish them health, safety, and happiness. If you’ve read Don’s column, you know that he is always cheerful and positive. I am thankful to have met them both and had the opportunity to learn a business from two people who put their heart and souls into delivering a quality magazine that our local community could be proud of.
