Mexico’s newest vacation get-away, called Mahekal Beach Resort, recently opened in Playa del Carmen following an extensive ten million dollar reimagination.

The resort is the latest and most lavish of the fantastic sites that have transformed Playa del Carmen into one of Mexico’s premier tourist destinations. Other parts of the rapid development that is taking place in the area includes luxury residential condominiums, restaurants, boutiques, and entertainment venues of many kinds. High-end retail establishments that have opened or are about to include Louis Vuitton, Carolina Herrera, Paul & Shark, and Christian Dior. The Riviera Maya flagship Liverpool store is in a lifestyle center with such retailers as Zara, Zara Home, H&M, Massimo Dutti, Armani Exchange, Lacoste, REI, and an Apple Store.

Mahekal Beach Resort occupies Playa del Carmen’s longest stretch of beach comprising 800 feet of beautiful shoreline. In a unique counterpoint to the area’s high-rise and corridor accommodations, Mahekal Beach Resort guests reside in 122 individual thatched-roof bungalows, or casitas, located a short stroll from the sweeping, sandy beach. Bungalow styles include Garden View, Ocean View, Penthouse, and Ocean Front bungalows, which are located just 10 steps from the Pacific’s sparkling turquoise water of the Caribbean Sea. Hand-laid, hidden stone pathways connect the bungalows with each other and with the pristine beach. The bungalows offer a complete list of advantages including such things as stunning views, personal plunge pools, hammocks, and private open-air terraces. Guests can also enjoy the two new swimming pools, a new seaside Jacuzzi, and three new bars – Boli’s, Itzi and Las Olas. Two newly remodeled resort restaurants – Las Olas and Cocina – serve everything from traditional Mexican and Latin American fare to higher-end “Land and Sea” dishes.

Mahekal Beach Resort provides an authentic and intimate tropical vacation experience. The bungalows have a deliciously quaint style, which will soon feature state-of-the-art WiFi and telephone access to property services. Guests are encouraged to spend their days in perfect self-indulgence, beginning with the moment they awaken to the sight of the sun rising above the blue Caribbean. If room service is desired, a member of the hotel staff will deliver it riding a vintage bike carefully carrying the breakfast in a woven rattan basket. Guests who wish to immerse themselves in local culture can take on-site ceramic painting classes with a noted master of the craft. The famous bustling pedestrian walkway, called 5th Avenue (Quinta Avenida), is only a block inland from the beach and is lined with hundreds of famous shops, bars, lounges, and restaurants offering multinational cuisine, live music venues, and trendy unique dining and dancing venues. Guests can take excursions ranging from exploring ancient Mayan ruins in Tulum, swimming through Xcaret!’s underwater caves, or boating down the aptly named Paradise River. They can swim with sharks and dolphins, tour Mayan wineries, or watch traditional Mayan dances. Mahekal Beach Resort’s interiors were designed by Hilda Espino in partnership with Todd Fiscus. The Mahekal Beach Resort style is bohemian gypsy infused with colorful Mexican accents including the knitwear design of fabrics in the eclectic lobby and fireplace seating area, plus the bright orange ping pong tables and cobalt blue billiard tables in the main lobby bar and activity center. Color Condition artwork and sculptures are made with colorful shredded plastic tablecloths.

Mahekal Beach Resort offers vacations that are certain to become treasured memories by those who come and take advantage of this premier get-away opportunity.
