Every bride wants to look perfect for her wedding day.

With a long scrolling list of to-dos and countless number of important events to attend, sometimes her skin is the last thing on a bride’s mind. Dr. Ed Beckerhas practiced dermatology in Walnut Creek for over 20 years. He and his professionally trained staff can help create a tailored treatment plan to guarantee that you look your best at all the right times.

Microderma bras ion
If all you have is a last minute slot, microdermabrasion is the best way to get a quick fix. The Dermasweep™ system provides a state-of-the-art skin resurfacing treatment that combines microdermabrasion with Epi-Infusion that simultaneously delivers specialized topical solutions to repair and heal the skin. It provides facial rejuvenation for all skin types and a variety of skin conditions such as acne, dehydration, uneven skin tone, sun damage, and surgical scars. “Microdermabrasion is a superficial treatment that gives people instant results,” said Dr. Becker. “It is the perfect treatment to do before the wedding because it makes the skin smooth so that the makeup goes on flawlessly.”

Chemical Peels
If you have more advance notice, a chemical peel can drastically improve the appearance and texture of the skin. Chemical peels remove surface skin cells to stimulate skin renewal, improve the appearance of the skin, and create an immediate difference in skin texture. The procedures are fast and convenient, taking only about 20 minutes with no significant pain, no need for anesthesia, and a very short recovery time. Several varieties of peels are available, including ones for sensitive skin. A traditional Glycolic Acid peel is ideal for rejuvenation and fine lines. The Vitalize Peel is a new-generation formula incorporating alpha-hydroxy acids, beta-hydroxy acids, resorcinol, and retinoic acid. It is especially effective for acne scars and to correct sun-damaged, pigmented spots. “If someone wants to reduce some dark spots and have their skin be clearer, they should schedule a chemical peel about two weeks before their event,” said Dr. Becker. “The procedure can be done once, and it will help freshen the skin.” Results of these peels are noticeable after only one treatment and can be cumulative after several treatments. “I do suggest those with a darker complexion opt for an alternative treatment because chemical peels can cause pigmentation issues.”

Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing replaces damaged skin with fresh new skin. It can improve:

• Fine lines and wrinkles of the face, especially around the upper lip, cheeks, and forehead

• Loose eyelid skin

• Crow’s feet around the eyes

• Brown spots and splotchy, uneven skin tone

• Scars, especially acne scars

The Fraxel Duel laser can reduce sun-damaged brown spots if you have a few weeks before the big event. The CO2 fractional laser system, the UltraPulse®, delivers a pattern of thousands of tiny, instantaneous laser pulses to the skin. Each pulse heats a column of tissue, eliminating pigment discolorations at the surface, creating a zone of heating deep in the tissue to vaporize aging collagen, and heating even deeper layers, stimulating new collagen growth to remodel and rejuvenate the skin. This technique achieves remarkable results in a single, long-lasting treatment but does have more downtime. Precise control of the configuration of the pulses, as well as their depth, placement, and intensity allows light, moderate, or deep laser resurfacing treatments for a variety of circumstances. The precision of laser resurfacing allows each treatment to be tailored to your individual needs.

BO TOX® Cosmet ic
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a non-surgical technique that reduces “frown lines” between the eyebrows, as well as lines on the forehead and around the eyes, creating a more youthful appearance without anesthesia and with essentially no downtime or recovery. “BOTOX® helps to reduce the expression lines you don’t like while still retaining plenty of expression and a natural look,” said Dr. Becker. The treatment, which takes 10-15 minutes, consists of a few injections that relax the muscles whose repeated contractions cause those tough lines to form over time. Patients are able to return immediately to work and normal activity. Appearance improves within the first few days, increasing over the first week, and the effect lasts for up to four months. “With BOTOX® it takes two to three days for the treatment to work, and patients get the full effect within two weeks,” said Dr. Becker. “I always recommend people schedule a treatment two to four weeks before a special event.”

Mirvas o® Ge l
A common issue for many women and men is redness of the face. If you flush when you get anxious, stressed, nervous, or when you drink alcohol, that is caused by dilating blood vessels. “It’s a very common problem for a lot of people,” said Dr. Becker. “A wedding isn’t solely about the bride. We can also help the groom, especially if he has a red face, flushes easily, or wants to enjoy some wine at his own wedding.” This gel was just approved by the FDA in October and can now be prescribed by dermatologists. Simply apply Mirvaso® to the skin 30 minutes to an hour before your event and redness will stay away for eight to ten hours. “You havepictures taken that you look at for the rest of your life, some that probably end up framed and on display in your home. You don’t want to have a red face ruin that.”
