East Bay Photo Contest
Calling all local photographers! 110° will be showcasing the best in local photography once per month. If you would like to showcase your photos in our publication, feel free to submit your work. You do not have to be a professional photographer to be chosen; we encourage both professionals and amateurs to submit their photos. We are looking for photos that capture the beauty and essence of our East Contra Costa County region. They can include places, people, or local events. There is no cost to submit; however, a photo release will be required. The photos showcased this month are compliments of Robert Ashin.

“The Cowboy in the Shadow,”
"was taken on February 5, 2019."

The foggy day photo was taken on December 21, 2020, at about 8:30 a.m. on the Marsh Creek Regional Trail between Creekside Park and Balfour Road. This view is looking south toward Creekside Park along the trail.

The cowboy photo titled “The Cowboy in the Shadow,” was taken on February 5, 2019. Jay Jones, the cowboy, raises cattle on the John Marsh estate through a lease from the State of California. Jay is a living reminder of Brentwood’s rural heritage. The photo was taken at the top of the dam on Marsh Creek Road where you can see the reservoir. Robert happened to be there taking photos of the reservoir with the snow on Mount Diablo when Jay rode into the picture. This photo was displayed at the Delta Gallery in the spring of 2019. Robert got to know Jay through his membership on the board of the John Marsh Historic Trust. Jay is a great guy who is truly part of our living history.
