We continue to be astonished at the depth of the culture
and history here in East County. Don Huntington, our
Editor In Chief, comments to me at the end of every issue
on how the supply of interesting characters and wonderful
stories in this area seems inexhaustible.
How many of the following facts did you have any
idea were true?
Byron is the location of the only privately owned
aerobatic team in America that uses military airplanes.
One of our own local artists designed a 30-foot high
sculpture that sits in a New Orleans city center.
A local cowgirl got married with her horse as one
of the groomsmen.
The Editor In Chief of the Brentwood Press initially
began studying journalism so he could be a more effective
paperboy.
The Oakley Dupont Redevelopment project is being
supported on the Dupont side by a manager who has worked
at the plant since President Kennedy was in office.
A local performance artist does Cher so effectively
that the security people at a Cher conference wouldn’t
let her go sit down until they verified the truth from
Cher herself.
A client designed a fancy table in a mortgage broker’s
office to symbolize how the broker’s office became
like a rescue ship for a person abandoned on an island
of realty paperwork.
The Brentwood Wine Store came about through an amazing
series of circumstances, one of them involving a dollar
bill.
The articles in this current issue reveal these interesting
factoids, and hundreds of others. Every issue has been
like this.
We continually receive compliments about how interesting
our magazine is, but the fact is, we’re writing
about an amazingly interesting area, full of people with
compelling stories and histories. We always feel like
we “have the wind at our backs” in creating
issues of the magazine. It is easy to find the articles.
The only difficult part about content is the dreary decisions
about which articles to leave out because of space constraints.
When 110° Magazine has 160 pages, we’ll still
be finding plenty of articles to fill up the space!
Corn Fest Comments
We saw some of you who stopped by the 110° Degrees
Corn Fest booth last month. Our hearts were warmed by
a number of comments from people expressing appreciation
for our magazine.
The enthusiastic praise from one of our readers captured
the spirit of many of the people who dropped by. She
said, “I love getting each issue of the 110°
Magazine! I always begin reading at the beginning and
don’t quit reading it until I get to the end.”
We invited readers to record their comments in a notebook
we provided at the booth for the purpose. A large number
of them tell us, “I read your magazine from cover-to-cover.”
About twenty of them simply wrote, “Great Magazine!”
Seven encouraged us to “keep up the good work!”
I guess our favorite comment was by a young woman who
wrote “Just too awesome for words!” Or perhaps
we most like, “Great Magazine! I’ve learned
more from your magazine than from my seven years of living
here.”
Here is a sample of some of the other comments we collected:
We’ve changed our minds about the country airs
of Brentwood. They are mixed with a wonderful amount
of culture as is evidenced in every copy of 110°.
We love your magazine. We are new in California and
110° gives us great insight into the state and
the area.
My favorite magazine!
I look forward to each issue to learn about the community
and then visiting the people and places mentioned in
the articles.
Best magazine in the East County!
We love 110° Magazine! We read an article about
skydiving in the magazine and, because of that article
we jumped out to of an airplane for our 11th anniversary.
We love your magazine! Or should I say “our”
magazine! Very informative! Keep doing the articles
about Brentwood and East County history!
Thank you! Our advertising in your magazine is generating
a lot of response
Such a pleasure to have a magazine about our area!
It makes me not miss “Diablo” Magazine!
Best magazine in East Contra Costa!
I’m so impressed with Brad Shifflett’s
photography! What art work each picture is; obviously
well composed and well thought out.
I look forward to seeing his work in each issue!
The topics you cover are wonderful!
Loved the “Dying to Get Home” article
in the June issue. The Vasco problem has long been
put on the back burner so I’m glad 110° stepped
up to the plate and didn’t shy away from the
controversy.
Very informative!
I really like your covers! Great topics!
Your magazine provided the best advertisement I ever
had for my business!
Love the magazine! I look forward to all the information
in each month!
I loved the Farmer’s Daughter article!
Informative and fun!
Love your magazine!
It is my hometown magazine!
Thank goodness for 110° Magazine!
You find out more about your country than through
the City Hall!
To the Gang at 110° You are the best!
Super Duper!
I love your thoughts on the back page, plus everything
else in the magazine.
Fabulous magazine!
I look forward to reading each month.
We needed a hip local magazine like this in East
County.
Great reading! I look forward to it every month
Good things are happening with 110° and its all
God’s doing!
Finally! A great magazine for our community!
We moved from Livermore to Brentwood and love the
magazine
Keep up the great work!
It brings Brentwood into the 21st century.
This is awesome and very informative!
Fantastic magazine!
I love reading it!
Love, love, love your magazine!
Love your magazine! I read it from cover to cover
as soon as it arrives!
Great Photography!
Awesome Articles!
It’s the only magazine I read!
God Bless!
Awesome article on the Byron Hot Springs.
We are encouraged by these and other comments that we
received at the Corn Fest. So many people encouraged
us to “keep up the good work!” Actually,
we wouldn’t think of doing anything else.
God Bless!
